NY Jets QB Justin Fields in concussion protocol after leaving Week 2 game against the Bills

Justin Fields #1 - NCAA Division 1 Football University of Maryland Terrapins Vs. Ohio State Buckeyes on November 11th 2019 at the Ohio State Stadium in Columbus^ Ohio USA

NY Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that QB Justin Fields is in concussion protocol.

Fields sustained the injury on a fourth-quarter sack by Buffalo Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa during the Jets Week 2 30-10 loss against the Bills. The back of Fields’ helmet slammed the turf on the takedown by Bosa, which occurred with 14 minutes remaining in the blowout. Fields fumbled on the play but the Jets recovered and punted on fourth down. He was evaluated on the sideline before walking to the locker room with the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant, and left the game. Tyrod Taylor went on to replace Fields.

Prior to the injury, the 26-year-old QB just 3-of-11 passing for 27 yards; on the ground, he gained 49 yards on five scrambles. Taylor will start next Sunday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Fields doesn’t clear concussion protocol.
